What is Zoom Teeth Whitening? Everything You Need to Know

Arverne Dental • October 11, 2022

Teeth whitening remedies have been practiced for thousands of years. The Ancient Romans used a mixture of urine and goat milk to make their teeth look whiter, at a time when white teeth signified wealth and beauty.

Today, having white teeth is still seen as important (though thankfully remedies do not involve pee!). When it comes to first impressions, a majority of Americans say that people with good smiles are perceived as more approachable, confident, and trustworthy.

That's why Zoom teeth whitening is so popular. In this blog post, your premier dentist in Rockaway Beach, NY, will highlight everything you need to know about the benefits of Zoom whitening, the procedure, aftercare, and more. Let's get started!

How Does Zoom Teeth Whitening Work?

If you aren't satisfied with the appearance of your teeth, there are several steps you can take. While more intensive cosmetic procedures are available, such as braces, one of the easier and most affordable options is to have your teeth whitened.

One of the most popular teeth whitening products on the market today is Zoom, which is manufactured by Philips. There are several different treatment options within this, which we will highlight below.

All of these procedures involve the use of hydrogen peroxide, which is a whitening substance. The application of an LED light is typically also used during the procedure.

Before undergoing a teeth whitening procedure, your teeth must be clean. Therefore, you should be mindful of the food and drinks that you consume in advance of your appointment.

Please note that adults are better candidates for teeth whitening, which is not recommended for children and adolescents.

In-Office Zoom Teeth Whitening Options

Let's take a closer look at some of the in-office options that are available with Zoom.

Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed

The Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed option is the most effective treatment, leaving teeth looking much whiter and bright in less than an hour. It is a simple process, whereby a whitening gel is applied to the teeth along with the use of an LED lamp.

Throughout a 45-minute session, this method can whiten teeth in several shades. A professional teeth cleaning is often recommended before this procedure so that they are ready for the procedure.

After completing this procedure, you will be able to take at-home whitening treatments (more on these below) to maintain the appearance of your whitened teeth. These materials are included in the overall cost of the Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed treatment package.

Philips Zoom QuickPro

As the name suggests, the Philips Zoom QuickPro is a quicker method of whitening teeth. It only takes around 30 minutes and the treatment can be applied by the dentist in just 10 minutes.

As soon as the treatment has been applied, you will be able to leave the office. Just remember to brush off the whitening substances 30 minutes after application.

While it is quicker and more affordable than the WhiteSpeed option, it will not whiten teeth by as many shades.

At-Home Zoom Teeth Whitening Options

There are 2 further options for whitening teeth with Zoom, which can be performed at home. Let's take a look at these below.

Philips Zoom DayWhite

The at-home Zoom teeth whitening options include custom trays that fit over the teeth. As the name suggests, Philips Zoom DayWhite trays are worn during the daytime. They are worn for between 30 and 90 minutes once or twice each day.

Philips Zoom NightWhite

As you might have guessed, these trays are worn during the night! Both of these treatments last for 2 weeks. The same procedure is followed for both the DayWhite and NightWhite trays.

First, brush your teeth so that they are clean, and then add a small amount of whitening gel to your trays. Next, put the trays over your top and bottom teeth and wear them for the prescribed length of time.

When you remove your trays, simply rinse them in cold water and brush your teeth once again.

How Long Does Zoom Teeth Whitening Last?

The results of using Zoom whitening can be expected to last for between several months and more than a year.

There is research to show that with the Zoom WhiteSpeed treatment, followed by the Zoom DayWhite treatment, results can last for up to 15 months.

Aftercare Tips to Follow

Following the completion of your procedure, you will receive specific instructions as part of the aftercare process. For example, removing the varnish that has been applied to the teeth 30 minutes after Zoom QuickPro and brushing your teeth following at-home treatments.

You will also be recommended to avoid certain beverages and foods that may contribute to the staining of your teeth. This will help your teeth to stay whiter for longer. For example, drinks to avoid include tea, soda, and coffee.
